The Coldest War
The Sound, known to old timers as Puget Sound, is the large body of salt water that abuts Seattle to the west. The Alki Zone juts out into the water in a knobby peninsula. The coast runs south-east from there curving down and then back up vertical once more in what is still known as Elliot Bay, and the old waterfront. The waterfront is now, however, a warzone. Pike’s Wall protects the Spires from Esoterics who rise from the deep waters of Elliot Bay, clambering over the long-rotted seawall to invade the ruined city. The old aquarium is their beachhead and temple, and thus far no sortie has gone against it.
The Sound is large, distant islands or peninsulas can be seen from the spires. Strange fogs and mists often roll across the dark, slate-gray water. Nobody really remembers how far the water extends. They do know that the numbers of the Esoterics seem endless.
